My Second Trimester Pregnancy Update

My Second Trimester Pregnancy Update & An Apple Inspired Amazon Giveaway!

29 weeks. 7 months and 1 week.

How did that happen so quickly?!

When I first found out I was pregnant in early September last year, I didn’t imagine the time would fly by so quickly. Before I knew it, I’d be 7 months along with a babe the size of a “butternut squash” in my belly. I can honestly say I’m so excited to meet our little girl, but also a bit sad that my pregnancy is more than half over. While my first trimester was definitely a struggle to say the least, the second has been much, much better.

I’ve really enjoyed the second trimester even with the little aches, pains, and leg cramps that have come along with it. My “morning” (aka ALL DAY) sickness is long gone, my energy levels have been pretty good considering I’m growing a human, and I’ve had a lot of fun watching my belly grow, feeling all the kicks, bumps, and rolls from inside.

One thing that was particularly enjoyable for me in the second trimester was being able to resume a somewhat normal eating routine. While I was sick for the first 4 months, I pretty much focused on eating anything that would settle OK versus focusing on what kinds of food to eat. My eating was rather sporadic and not very balanced in general. Around week 17 I was able to come off of the Diclectin (anti-sickness medication) and my appetite returned to normal.

Once again salads, green veggies, and healthy meals were appealing, my appetite was up, and I enjoyed cooking again (no more gag reflex to every single smell, sight, or sound of food). I was also able to begin working out again and while my exercise has been very different than my pre-pregnancy routine (more on this coming soon!), I was happy to be moving my body again.

Not surprisingly, apples have been one of my favourite snacks, and I’m not just saying that because it’s Apple Month! There’s something about the crunch, juiciness, and overall taste of a cold, fresh apple that’s ticked every box. I’m convinced baby is an apple lover too.

For those who aren’t in the loop, Apple Month is an annual celebration across Western Canada highlighting quality produce grown on British Columbia soil and the value of local growers like B.C. Tree Fruits. For those who love apples, February is the month to celebrate!

Along with apples, I’ve been enjoying many other fruits like berries, bananas, and mango. I still eat eggs every morning with a smoothie or a complex carbohydrate, and my lunches and dinners are again resembling wonderfully balanced meals with proteins, healthy fats, veggies, and complex carbohydrates.

  • While I was pregnant I enjoyed seeing what I was craving. It was interesting to see it correspond with the development of our baby. One thing that never grew old was jalapeños. I couldn’t get enough on my morning eggs. I couldn’t stomach coffee or it’s smell or tea the entire time.

    • Haha it’s so interesting what the body does!! I also can’t get enough of my morning eggs – every single day I want them! Even when I was feeling sick!

  • I love apples especially Ambrosia They are my favorite and I am going to try the gluten free baked donuts. They sound very good and I haven’t had a donut in years.
