Ok, so before I get into this post, let’s just address the elephant in the room…. What’s up with my blog?! If you are a follower on the Facebook Page, you’ll know I’ve been dealing with some technical difficulties over the past few days – on Saturday my blog just decided to disappear and now it’s kind of erased a bunch of stuff... awesome! Anyways, the problem is being fixed, and my lovely web gal is going to be getting it back to normal within the next couple of days – so in the meantime, if you are trying to access my recipe page, all of my content is still available – just follow this link – RECIPE PAGE.
Thank you for your patience while I work out these kinks! Now…. on to the post!
Recently I got connected with a new local juicery in my city – Glow Juicery! I LOVE checking out local companies and seeing what they are all about, especially when it’s related to health and nutrition!
Juicing is something that’s more recently been brought into the spotlight, and for good reason! It’s a fantastic way to reset your system, give your digestion a little break, introduce a new method of nourishment, and detoxify your body and mind!
I stopped by Glow Juicery the other day and picked up a few different juices to test out!
They have an amazing selection of juices and I picked the…
Earthy Glow – a blend of Apple + Beet + Carrot + Cucumber + Ginger
the After Glow – a blend of Spinach + Cucumber + Celery + Kale + Apple + Parsley
and the Sky Glow – a blend of Pear + Cucumber + Lemon + Mint!
They were very light, refreshing, and energizing!
I was surprised at how well I could pick out each ingredient in each different juice blend – the beets, pears, mint, kale… they all had their time to shine with each sip!
Trying out the juices got me very excited for the upcoming Community Juice Cleanse that Glow Juicery is hosting in January! From January 6th to the 24th Glow is going to be offering juice cleanses for purchase and it comes with a whole array of benefits and giveaways!

So let’s talk a little more about Juicing itself!
What IS juicing?
Simply (wikipedia) stated, juicing is the process of extracting juice from plant tissues such as fruits and vegetables.
Taking raw fruits and vegetables in their natural, beautiful live state, and juicing them (using a juicer!) keeps the vitamins, minerals and enzymes intact and makes them very easily digested and assimilated by the body. This differs from juice you buy at the grocery store that has been pasteurized as the process of pasteurization (heating to kill bacteria) depletes these nutrients. But why not just eat whole fruits and vegetables? Well, you can, that’s great too – but by juicing, you remove the fibre, and give the digestive system a nice little rest, and the body is nourished much faster, so it’s nice to switch it up once in a while!
Why SHOULD I juice?
Juicing has an array of benefits, it can:
- help facilitate weight loss
- increase energy levels
- strengthen immunity
- reduce the chance of heart disease, cancer and strokes
- detoxify the liver
- rest the digestive system, and cleanse the digestive system
- promote pH balance in the body and lower acidity
- reduce inflammation
… and much more! As you can see, it comes with a whole lot of great benefits!
For how LONG should I juice and How OFTEN should I juice?
If you are new to juicing, it’s suggested that you start slow, maybe just one juice as a meal at a time, or one full day at a time. Then you can opt to try a juice cleanse for 2 or 3 days. This way you can monitor your body’s reactions to juicing, and ease yourself into the process. You may then want to explore a longer juice cleanse of 3-5 days or even 5-7!
Juicing can be a monthly endeavour, yearly, or really how often you feel your body needs it! It’s really up to you!
Everyone is different and how they respond to a juice cleanse will be different too, so it’s always best to get educated, start slow, and be mindful with a juice cleanse!
What to CONSIDER before juicing?
Before trying a juice cleanse, it’s always important to consider some things, as not everyone may be suited for juicing. The following people should always talk to a health professional before juicing (particularly for more than a day at a time) to make sure it’s safe for them, as it may be, but it’s always good to get an OK first!
- individuals with Diabetes
- pregnant women
- those with diagnosed illnesses or disorders
- those with a body fat % of 30 or greater
- elderly individuals
It is also important, if you are juicing at home, and making your own juices that you use organic fruits and vegetables, and consume your juice within 72 hours.
So – what are your thoughts on juicing?
Is it something you’ve tried? If so, how was your experience?
If you haven’t tried it – are you wanting to?
