Well, well, well it’s that time of year again! The little kiddies go back to school, and you get your sanity back!Truthfully I don’t really know what that’s like because I don’t have any kids…yet! But, the impression I get from many parents is that back-to-school time is quite a blissful time! I thought it would be fitting to compile a list of healthy snack and lunch ideas to pack in your child’s lunchbox, or if you have older children in junior high or high school, some they can try making for themselves to bring to school!
It’s so important for children to be eating healthy as they really are our future! I know, that’s a bit intense to say, but I feel the need to get intense when it comes to child/adolescent nutrition. We are at a time where children are getting Type 2 Diabetes at the age of 10… TEN! The typical onset of this disease is 40 years of age, and the fact that we now see kids as young as 10 with this horrific and very preventable disease is very sad. This commercial I recently saw really makes a statement, and I believe it’s so important that we make the feeding of our children healthy food a priority! Snack foods in the grocery aisles like fruit rollups, granola bars, and Dunk-a-roos are LOADED with sugars, and convenience based lunches like pizza pops, hot dogs, snack-packs, and cup-a-noodles are packed with chemical additive and preservatives, which we all know, aren’t good for anyone, let alone our little minions! So (as I step off my soap-box) check out my list and give some of these a try!
