I’m changing things up here at Nutritionist in the Kitch! I’ve decided to add a couple different themed posts that I will be doing regularly! The first that I am introducing is “Fave Five Fridays”. Every Friday I will be posting a list of 5 things that I have found that are:a) Nutritionist Approved! b) Look absolutely delicious or are super cool! c) I think you should try!
Unfortunately there just isn’t enough hours in the day for me to test out all the wonderful recipes I find, so I think just sharing them with you so you can try them is good too! They won’t all be recipes too, I will be posting any 5 in a category that is either a recipe or health related in some way! I hope you all enjoy this new post trend and make some of my friday favorites your favorites too!
Now… enough blabbering from me.. here are the Fave Five!
1. Creamy Avocado Yogurt Dip from Two Peas And Their Pod
This dip looks absolutely-lip-smacking-wonderful! It is full of essential fatty acids from the avocado, and not too high in fat because the recipe uses plain 0% fat Greek yogurt. The additional ingredients of lime juice, cilantro, jalapeno, and spices keep this dip light and fresh, and it would be a perfect snack paired with some raw veggies or would do great as a spread on a sandwich or in a wrap!
2. Greek Yogurt Blackberry Smoothie from Fit Sugar
First of all, the color of this smoothie is spectacular and all natural! The blackberries add a wonderful dose of antioxidants and the banana gives a pop of potassium! The Greek yogurt in this recipe gives it a creamy texture without adding any saturated fats! I would add some flax seed or chia seeds to this smoothie to give it some healthy fats and up the nutritional ante just a tad! This recipe would make a wonderful on-the-go breakfast or midday snack!
3. Greek Yogurt Cupcakes from Greatist
Now these I have to try! A healthy cupcake! Although Claudine, from Greatist, admits she messed up the recipe a little, they still do look like a wonderful little treat, and hey, if you can feel good about it when eating something that has “cupcake” in the recipe name, thats good for me! The recipe uses Greek yogurt that lends moisture to the cupcake, the egg whites add protein, and the whole wheat flour brings in the fiber! They may not be as sweet as the typical sugar-laden cupcake but who wants all that refined sugar junk anyway?!
4. Chocolate Chocolate Chip Yogurt Dip from Edible Perspective
Yum. That is all you have to say about this one. I know, I said it too. This dip looks like it is a guilty little indulgent, but don’t be fooled! This recipe is actually healthy! The Greek yogurt, although not low fat, is still not overly high in calories, but is high in protein. Unsweetened cocoa powder gives the dip its chocolaty flavor and look, and the pure vanilla extract and maple syrup adds the sweetness without any refined sugars. This dip is perfect for a healthy treat – dip fruits in it or use as a tasty pancake topper! Yummmmm….
5. Greek Yogurt Pancakes from How Sweet It Is
These pancakes use plain 0% Greek yogurt and light coconut milk to add moisture without adding too much fat! The whole wheat pastry flour keeps them free of refined flours and the honey, vanilla, and cinnamon add a dose of sweetness! With some pure maple syrup these pancakes look like a perfect weekend brunch pleaser! Delish!
Well, that sums of my Fave Five for this week! If you want even more delicious recipes using Greek yogurt, check out my Breakfast Muesli, Pumpkin Granola Yogurt Parfait, or Heavenly Lemon Blueberry Scones!
Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
