Blender or Vitamix Salsa Made in Just 5-Minutes

Salsa is one of my favourite condiments. To be honest, even though it’s supposed to be an “addition” or “topping“, I definitely think a good homemade salsa can seriously be what makes a meal a reeeaaally good meal.

Simple scrambled eggs with toast? Add salsa. Boom! Flavour explosion.

Rice bowl with chicken and veggies? Add salsa. Whole new ballgame!

Beef or veggie burger? Add salsa. Ohhhh yessss!

See what I mean? A delicious, homemade Vitamix salsa can add some serious flavour to an already yummy meal and take it up to a whole new level. This easy blender salsa tastes amazing, super fresh, and is really quite simple.

Why make a Blender or Vitamix Salsa?

When it comes to making salsa you can do it a couple ways. The longer, more tedious way, or the easy-peasy, 5-minutes-and-you’re-done way.

While I have been known to spend quite a while chopping onion, tomatoes, cilantro, and squeezing lime, then stirring and waiting for a delicious homemade salsa, a high-speed blender or Vitamix is really the key to a salsa that is incredibly quick and saves you time plus a whole lot of onion tears.

Aside from a very quick, loose chop of the onions, there’s no other chopping or dicing involved, and all you need is the blender and a can opener for an unbelievable restaurant-style salsa that you’ll make again and again.

Ingredients in Blender Salsa:

To make this tasty homemade salsa that has a restaurant-style taste and texture (think fresher, less chunky, and not too tomato-saucy if that makes sense) you only need a handful of ingredients. With a mixture of fresh ingredients and a few styles of canned tomatoes you get such a great flavour and consistency. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Canned plum tomatoes
  • Canned diced tomatoes with chilies (I used mild as I like spice but not too much)
  • Canned fire roasted tomatoes
  • Garlic
  • Sweet onion
  • Cilantro
  • Lime
  • Coconut palm sugar
  • Salt

Why Use Three Types of Canned Tomatoes?

The mixture of the three types of canned tomatoes is what really adds to the flavour of the salsa.

The plum tomatoes are mild and sweet, the diced tomatoes with chilies add the heat and a touch of spice, and the fire-roasted tomatoes bring in that perfect roasted tomato flavour that really makes that restaurant-style taste.

While you could just use the diced tomatoes with chilies or the fire-roasted, I highly recommend using the combination of all three canned tomato types to get the best overall result.

How To Make Vitamix Salsa:

When it comes to pulling this homemade salsa together there are only a few simple steps to follow.

  1. Add canned tomatoes to the blender.
  2. Loosely chop the onion and add to the blender along with the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Blend until well combined.
  4. Optional: Strain using a fine mesh trainer if you prefer a thicker salsa consistency.
  5. Add to a bowl or jar and enjoy!

I like my salsa to be a touch thicker and not too watery so I chose to add in the straining step at the end. Some people really like a thinner consistency so it’s totally up to you. You can even strain just half of the salsa and add it back with the other half.

I don’t know about you but I’d take fresh, homemade vitamix salsa over jarred salsa any day. It has a way better flavour and texture and just tastes so fresh and delicious.
